Do you need to store your truck for a few weeks or months? Maybe you’re leaving the country on an extended trip, or you might be a snowbird and are heading to Florida for the winter. It’s important not to just park it and forget it.

Short-term storage is typically 3-6 months. If you don’t take precautions before you store your truck, you could come back to problems and issues like surface rust or carburetor issues. At Tim’s Truck Capital and Auto Sales in Epsom, NH, we have a few tips for you about storing your truck or car.

Install the right spark plugs. Have you been using sub-par spark plugs? If so, switch back to OE or OE equivalent plugs before you store your truck.

Buy a battery charger. You can also use a maintainer that plugs into a wall. Both are inexpensive and will keep your battery charged long-term. You can also disconnect your truck’s battery while it is stored.

Fall and winter weather are on the way, and that means it’s more important than ever to keep your vehicle running great. The last thing you want is to end up on the side of the road in the rain or snow, right? At Tim’s Truck Capital and Auto Sales in Epsom, NH, we know how important it is to check five different fluid levels in your vehicle. Whether you’re driving a new vehicle or one that’s got some miles under its belt, it’s important to pay attention to these five fluid levels.

Engine Oil

First of all, it’s important change the oil every 3,000-5,000 miles. If you aren’t sure how long your vehicle can go between oil changes, be sure to talk to one of our service experts at Tim’s Truck Capital. They’re happy to help. To check your oil level, remove and wipe clean the dipstick, then reinsert it for a clean read. If the oil is low, add more of the oil your owner’s manual recommends. Do not overfill it.

Coolant

You’ll find your coolant in a clear overflow plastic container near your radiator.If the liquid is below the minimum line, it’s time to fill it with a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze.

Brake Fluid

You’ll usually find this in a lear reservoir that’s marked with minimum and maximum lines. If it’s low, fill it and then have the system check to make sure you don’t have a leak.

Power Steering Fluid

You’ll find a small take nea the windshields’ base. The steering fluid should be between the minimum and maximum level marker. If it’s low, bring it to Tim’s Truck Capital.

Windshield Washer Fluid

During the wet winter months it is especially important to have plenty of windshield washer fluid in your vehicle and on hand, because you use more of it in inclement weather. Keep an extra container of it in your garage or utility room so you don’t run out!
