The Seashore Trolley Museum Kennebunkport, ME

This museum is a mostly volunteer-run not-for-profit organization. It is the oldest and largest electric railway museum in the world and is the operating entity of the New England Electric Railway Historical Society. The Museum’s mission is to present a living history of public transportation in the U.S. The Seashore Trolley Museum was founded in 1939 with just one open trolley car, No. 31 from the Biddeford & Saco Railroad Company. Over the years thousands of members have followed the founders by helping the Museum grow to be one of the premier electric railway museums in the world. Their collection contains over 250 transit vehicles, most of them trolleys, from all over the United States, Canada and many other countries.

The White Mountain Central Railroad Lincoln NH

This railroad is located within the grounds of Clark’s Trading Post which serves as both a museum and tourist attraction. Visitors can go for a 2.5-mile train ride. It was originally opened as Ed Clark’s “Eskimo Sled Dog Ranch” in 1928 and was focused on raising and exhibiting Eskimo Sled Dogs. Today, the rare Steam Logging Locomotive will again be powering trains when it reopens in May 2017. Visitors can ride the steam train, enjoy the high speed water slide and watch a trained bear show and Chinese circus acts. There’s also a climbing tower and blaster boats. Fun for the whole family.

The “470” Railroad Club Portland, ME

Established in 1954 to commemorate the last run of steam locomotive No. 470, in passenger service on the Maine Central Railroad, the 470 Club now owns and maintains a collection of historic locomotives and cars. They are on display at the Conway Scenic Railroad in North Conway, New Hampshire. The club has an impressive collection of photo negatives and color transparencies covering Northern New England railroads, past and present.

The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad (Portland. ME)

The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad is dedicated to the preservation and operation of Maine’s two-foot-gauge railways for the education and enjoyment of the public. The small museum features exhibits that relate to Maine’s narrow gauge railway history, several historic rail cars, activities for children and a gift shop. Visitors can just tour the museum or can purchase a train ticket for a self-guided tour of the museum and a scenic waterfront train ride.

The scenic train ride lasts about 35 minutes. It covers a 1.5 miles (3 miles round trip) stretch along the Eastern Promenade of Casco Bay. Train crew and/or museum docents are on hand to provide historical information aboard the ride. Both open air and closed cars are available depending on the weather. Trains operates rain or shine. Pets are welcome during our regular-service train rides provided they are on a leash and well-behaved.

The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad is open May through October and seasonally for events.

Our team at Tim’s Truck Capital and Auto Sales loves to get outside when we’re not working. One of our favorite nearby places to visit is the Susan N. McLane Audubon Center in Concord, NH. We also love the nature and environmental educational opportunities the center provides for all ages.

What’s Offered at the Center?
The McLane Center offers environmental education programs for all ages, including school and youth group programs, summer and vacation camps, family programs, preschool and homeschool programs and adult education opportunities. Programs are operated year round. The Center has many exhibits including live animals such as a Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, Screech Owl and Barred Owls. The Center also offers several miles of hiking trails as well as picnic areas. Trails are open daily from dawn to dusk. The raptor mews are accessible through the center courtyard and open dawn to dusk. If you’re interested in renting the facility, there are function rooms for that purpose. The Nature Store is a great place to shop for bird feeders, bird seed, jewelry, books, clothing, gifts and more (Store hours: Monday-Friday, 10 am-5 pm, Saturday, 10 am-4 pm).

About the Center
NH Audubon’s McLane Center, formerly known as the Silk Farm Center, is the NH Audubon Society’s longest-established center. In addition to being a program center, the building is home to NH Audubon’s central operations. It is located on the Silk Farm Sanctuary in Concord.

Expanded Facility Is A Top Green Building
In spring 2006, a major expansion of the Center was completed. The new wing is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certified building and incorporates a multitude of green construction practices and materials.

As you can imagine, dirt and other debris builds up in your fuel system over time. The fuel system is made up of three different parts: the fuel filter, fuel pump and fuel injectors. A fuel system that is clogged keeps the fuel from flowing adequately to power the engine, so you may notice that your engine is not performing as well. Things to look for include sluggish performance, acting like it’s out of gas or your engine seems to lose power. If you notice any of these things, even if they only happen occasionally, it’s a sign your fuel system could need some attention. McAuliff-Shepard Mission Statement

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center’s mission is to inspire every generation to reach for the stars. They do this through engaging and entertaining activities that explore astronomy, aviation, earth and space science.

First American In Space

Alan Bartlett Shepard (November 18, 1923 – July 21, 1998) was the first American in space in 1961. He was selected from a group of 500 test pilots to become one of the seven original Mercury astronauts. He hailed from Derry and attending Pinkerton Academy and then the Naval Academy at Annapolis. His courage and curiosity were key in the development of the nation’s space program. He also made space more humanly accessible by coining the “astronaut’s prayer” and being the first person to try golfing on the moon! His memory and accomplishments are honored at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center.

Beloved Teacher & Space Shuttle Challenger Crew Member

Sharon Christa McAuliffe (née Corrigan, September 2, 1948 – January 28, 1986) was one of the seven crew members of Space Shuttle Challenger mission STS-51-L . She was to be the first teacher to go into space. The shuttle program had been developed to be an economical workhorse transporting people and material to build a low earth orbit space station. NASA launched the “Teacher in Space” program in order to allow a normal teacher to broadcast lessons from space to American classrooms. Christa was selected from 11,000 applicants to lead these lessons. She also completed full astronaut training. Tragically, the Challenger exploded shortly after launch and all seven crew members were lost. Christa’s motivation to open minds to learning, “I touch the future, I teach,” lives on in the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center.
