Interested in a hybrid truck? Tim’s Truck Capital and Auto Sales has a selection of hybrids to choose from. GMC’s Sierra 1500 Hybrid second generation was produced from 2009-2013. This full-size crew cab pickup is available in one fully-loaded trim level, with a choice of two- or four-wheel drive.

This high-tech truck, like its twin the Chevy Silverado Hybrid, has a 6.0-liter V8, two electric motors and a 300-volt battery pack under the rear seat. Its sophisticated transmission could operate like a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or switch over to four fixed ratios to enable top towing performance. The combined power output is 379 horsepower with a maximum tow rating of 6,100 pounds.

Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, OnStar, Bluetooth and a CD/MP3 stereo with steering-wheel audio controls and satellite radio. Options include rear parking sensors, a sunroof, a hard bed tonneau cover, leather upholstery, a navigation system, a rearview camera and power-adjustable pedals.

The #GMCSierra and Chevy Silverado parallel hybrid trucks were first introduced in 2005. In this mild-hybrid design, the electric motor is housed within the transmission flywheel assembly and only provides engine cranking, battery charging and power for accessories. The 5.3-liter V8 automatically shuts down when the truck comes to a stop, and the electric power restarts the engine on release of the brake pedal. Three auxiliary batteries that store and provide power are mounted under the rear seat. Several AC outlets are mounted in the bed, making this truck an attractive choice for anyone who needs to plug in electrical devices on the job.

Did you know that every time a wheel is mounted onto the axle with a new tire, it needs to be balanced? This ensures that the weight is even around the axle. Why does that matter? If your tires are unbalanced, it can result in uneven pressure on the treads which causes the tires to get too hot and wear unevenly. Tire imbalance also puts strain on the wheel bearings and suspension system.

How are tires balanced? Wheel balance is checked on a wheel balancing machine that can sense even a miniscule 1/4 ounce difference in weight around the wheel! While it’s hard to believe that such a slight difference in weight would make such a big difference on a heavy wheel, consider that this small amount of weight travels very fast around the axle – up to hundreds of times a minute! This slight imbalance can create just enough momentum to cause serious vibrations. If you multiply this imbalance times four wheels the wobble can really add up. Fortunately, technicians can fix the problem by placing tiny off-setting weights at specific points around the wheel to bring the tires back into perfect balance.

However, just because you’ve had your tires balanced you can’t just forget about them. Unfortunately, the minute you leave the service station with your newly balanced tires, they’ll start to get out of balance again. Every bump and corner has an effect on tire balance, as does tire wear. It doesn’t take long before your tires will be out of balance again. That’s why it’s important to have tires balanced regularly.

How do you know if your tires aren’t properly balanced? Warning signs include uneven wear on the tires and vibrations at speeds over 40 mph, especially if the imbalanced tires are on the front. Tim’s Truck Capital is a proud sponsor of the 603 Diesels Fall Banger Season Opener. The 2016 season of the New England Dragway is ending the right way. Those in attendance will have a lot to participate in and witness a whole lot of trucks. The first official bracket racing and gamblers race will be hosted in preparation for next year. It will cost $25 to race all night. The cash payouts were donated by TMS Diesel in Weare, NH. Show & Shine will be hosting contests with a $5 entry fee. We hope that it gets even better than the 80 trucks that participated last track night. Additionally, Mobile Dyno will be hosting a Highest Horsepower contest for Dodge, Ford, and GM. The entry fee is $80. If you aren’t participating in any of these contests or races, it costs $10 to spectate. At our last track night saw over 5,000 attendees, so let’s make it even bigger on October 28, 2016 at the New England Dragway & Motorsports Park.
