At Tim’s Truck Capital, our service experts get this question a lot: “Which oil should I use for my truck?” It’s a good question, especially since now you can choose synthetic oil, traditional motor oil or a blend. We thought we’d share some insights and information with you so you can make an informed decision.
Synthetic oil is great when it comes to both form and function. It lasts longer and can handle extreme temperatures much better than conventional oil. Because it can last up to three times longer than conventional oil, it’s less harmful to the environment because you’re dumping 15-24 quarts of oil less each year. Synthetic oil is more expensive, but because you have to change the oil less, it averages out with conventional oil.
With conventional oil, you have to do an oil change every 3,000 miles or three months. With today’s synthetics, you can go up to 10,000-15,000 miles or six months! Synthetics run cleaner and produce less resistance in your engine. You’ll get added horsepower and overall engine efficiency.
Most vehicle manufacturers will recommend which type of oil to use. You’ll find this information in your owner’s manual. The Ford F-Series is another one we love, with a trailer backup system that makes backing up a trailer as easy as turning a knob. You also get a 360 degree camera system to make sure you place the truck exactly where you want it, even in the tightest spaces.
The GMC Canyon is GMC’s version of the Chevrolet Colorado midsize truck. It has a color-matched grille and the 2.8 litre Duramax diesel engine. The crew cab, two-wheel drive short bed is our favorite and we like the Nightfall Edition black paint and 18” chrome wheels.

New Year’s Eve at The Carriage House
Everyone loves to celebrate New Year’s Eve—sending off the old year and bringing in the new one. Some like to do it quietly at home. Some like to celebrate at a family-friendly venue. Others want a more romantic experience with their significant other. The Carriage House in Bedford is hosting a New Year’s Eve event that promises to be very special. There will be a gourmet buffet and carving station hand selected by Thomas Reany, the Executive Chef of The Carriage House. The exceptional menu includes exotic mushroom soup and smoked duck, poached pears, spiced walnuts, honey thyme roasted breast of chicken, miso marinated cod, carved porcini rubbed tenderloin of beef with red pepper marmalade, lobster white truffle mac and cheese, potato Dauphinoise with caramelized onions and blue cheese and an extravagant dessert buffet. There will be dancing to the music of Bedford local Chad LaMarsh band, and a champagne toast at midnight. It’s $75 each or $150 per couple, or you can reserve a table for 10 for $750. It all takes place at Murphy’s Taproom and Carriage House at 393 New Hampshire 101 in Bedford.

First Night Portsmouth

It takes place in downtown Portsmouth, with ice sculpture in the Square starting at 1 p.m. There’s even stargazing with the NH Astronomical Society on Pleasant at 6 p.m. There are indoor events at Saint John’s Fellowship Hall, including face painting, a magic show, storytelling and more. There’s Celtic, Americana and maritime music with Great Bay Sailor at Middle Street Baptist Hall, too.
Children’s Museum of NH
There are three “countdowns to midnight” scheduled for families: at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.. You’ll enjoy a glittering ball drop, ginger ale toast, noisemakers and wishes dorps. Create your own party hat and more!

How To Get Your Vehicle Unstuck
Winter is definitely on the way, which means there will be more opportunities for your car, truck, minivan, SUV or crossover to get stuck in the snow. Whether your vehicle is buried to the axles or just slipping a little, here are some tips from Tim’s Truck Capital to help you get unstuck.
Don’t Hit The Brakes
If your car or truck begins to slide off the road and is headed toward a drift, slush pile or snow bank, don’t stop.You’re truck’s momentum can carry you out of the mush in all likelihood.Don’t stop until you are completely stuck. Even a tiny bit of constant movement is better than just spinning your wheels.
Don’t Spin Your Wheels
If you’re stuck and your wheels are just spinning, stop.Stomping the pedal and spinning your wheels is just going to make matters worse.
Shift to Low Gear
Put your automatic transmission into the lowest gear.However, for manual transmissions, shift to a higher gear like 3rd or 4th, and use your clutch to control the spin.You’ll get less shock on the tires and more control to keep your tires from spinning.
Rock It
This is a great method to get unstuck. Use the engine to roll your vehicle forward, put it in reverse, roll it backwards and then shift to drive and roll forward.By doing this several times, you can build momentum and often get it out of the rut it’s stuck in.
